awards ceremony and random facts

When I started to write this post I was worried that I might come off a little pompous, but then I realized well heck, I already have a blog, with my name as the url where I post stories about my family and pictures of us and my own outfits so I've probably already passed from seeming pompous to being pompous. But seriously, if you knew me in person and not just me the blogger you would know that I almost never tell people that I blog in casual or even not so casual conversation. In fact it's usually Nick who, being the amazing husband he is, brags about my blog and tells anyone we meet that they should check it out. I just stammer and sweat and see if I can turn into a puddle and sink into the ground. Not very gracious or graceful. Ask Brooke, who I got to meet at a volleyball game and was sweet enough to introduce herself to me, how graceful I wasn't. She made my weekend by saying hi and that she had read my blog! (Seriously, I was floating on clouds and couldn't stop smiling.) So thank you so much Jessica for nominating me for the Liebster Award and Laicie for nominating me for the Addictive Blog Award. I'm very honored and grateful . (I wonder if I can put this on my resume.)

And check out Laicie's fancy new blog design and her answer to why she blogs here.

  2. I have a separate stomach reserved for desserts that is twice as big as my other food stomach.
  3. My mom was a championship hula hooper, and her winning act was on rollerskates. I get my hip swivel and hula-hooping talents from her.
  4. I love hiking, and camping activities such as cooking over a fire and being in the mountains, but I don't really care for the camping part. (Mostly because it's always too cold for me and I have to pee every five seconds which means digging lots of holes.)
  5. I have never been outside of North America, but I now have a passport and am planning on changing that very soon.
  6. I use homeopathic remedies (if you're not sure what those are just think hippie medecine.)
  7. I am allergic to (in order of severity) gluten, dairy, beef, eggs, soy, peanuts, almonds, and I'm pretty sure refined sugar.
  8. I worked in a library for 3 years and loved it and still dream about being a librarian sometimes.
  9. A big part of me wishes that I had participated in the national novel writing month, the other part is glad that I wasn't so insane as to add one more thing to my daily schedule.
  10. I love loafers and have five pairs.
  11. I am an eyebrow stalker; when someone has nice eyebrows I'll stare for far longer than is socially acceptable.
Jessica's Questions
  1. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? Physically--my allergies or my height, Me me--my ability to get things done on time
  2. What would you do with a million dollars?-- travel the world, pay for grad school, buy a house, buy my mom a house, eat at two really nice restaurants, buy some clothes, and upgrade my camera gear
  3. What is your favorite hobby? reading, writing, talking, making art, photography, baking, eating baked goods, dance parties (anywhere. anytime.)
  4. What is your favorite thing about your significant other? His patience and supportiveness
  5. What is your dream job? Owning a shop. I would call it The Audacious Curiosity Shop (TACS), and we would sell antique furniture, vintage clothing, and handmade goods and there would be a small, allergy-friendly bakery area in the store where people could sit and read and eat and enjoy the ambiance. We would also offer photo styling services for weddings, engagements and photographers.
  6. If you could visit any place in the world where would you go? The Amazon Rain Forest
  7. Most embarrassing moment? Mooned a boy I liked (accidentally)
  8. What is your major? Creative Writing
  9. How many kids do you want? I'm not really sure, but I am excited for when that part of our life begins
  10. What is your biggest strength & biggest weakness? I can do anything. I think that I have to do everything, and by myself.
  11. What is your favorite blog? It depends on the day. I love reading blogs and staring at images. Some of my favorites are here. But since today is a day I would pick She Writes Home, because Kate feels like the sort of person that I'd be friends with and she shares her life in a simple but engaging way.
I nominate Leigh, Katie, Jas, Anto, Julia, Brittany and Brook and invite them and you to answer the question why do you blog. I'll be doing this too early next weekend, in honor of Laicie, and I'd appreciate if you'd all leave me links to your posts or answer in the comment section.

  6. Thank you so much for the nomination! I am very flattered, especially because you+blog are so talented. wow.

    Why I blog?

Well, I guess it is a bit of many of things smashed together. The truth is, I started blogging to get good at photography. At the time, I wasn't living away from family and didn't really feel like I had anything special to say. I remember looking at these amazing photography blogs online and drooling. I was determined to be as good as them one day (*still working on that :). Now that I live away from home, I can see the importance of keeping a record of my life. I feel like you can say so much more through a photograph than you could ever say in a conversation over the phone. I think my family feels closer to me because of it. The reason I continue to blog is really for me. I love feeling inspired and having a reason to break out the camera and attempt creating something worth posting. I don't think it is easy to keep up a blog. At least, I seem to battle often with whether or not my life is interesting enough. I guess you could say my inspiration comes and goes. But, I don't foresee a stopping point any time soon.

    Thanks again, Katie
    you had to be there
