As I've been searching for specials pieces for our home I've come to the realization that decorated walls can really make a big difference (my Pinterest boards are full of gallery style walls of art) but art can be expensive. I wish that I could barter with some artists--I'll make you dinner 5 times, organize your closets, teach you Photoshop, or design a website in exchange for one "real" piece of art (I'm not above manual labor. We're students, which equals money poor, but that doesn't mean we don't have skills.)
This is some of the art that I wish we had to display. 1, 2, 3, 4
P.S. This site is meant to get "real" art into the hands of people like you, affordably. People like me need to eat and feed a giant.
It took us forever to start collecting art for our walls... but it's a total process. The pieces I love the most are the ones that are connected to a place or an experience, instead of just picked out online. And some of them have been the cheapest. :) You never know what you might find!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely gorgeous. I'm glad that you're able to make your little place a home, rather than just a place to stay. When it feels like you belong it feels so much more inviting :)
ReplyDeleteHome reflects what a person is and it's nice being able to decorate it in order to feel comfortable.
ReplyDeleteyou should def do all you can to make it homey! i'm making mark hang some stuff even though we might move out in january, haha :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the second one.
ReplyDeleteYESSSSS!!! I totally agree. You know some bloggers make their own paintings and prints. Madebygirl has metallic LOVE signs on posters that I love when framed in white, and she also paints as well (but I don't know how much those go for). Also... I agree. Feeding a giant is hard. It's like they have endless pits as stomachs. Where does it all go? Why is my fridge empty?
ReplyDeleteArt in the home is so tough for me. I think it is because my tastes are always changing. As for my "giant." He likes portraits of lions and wolves on the walls, in the same room, our bed room. I keep thinking they have to go, but have nothing to put in their place. Yet.
ReplyDeleteI wish real art was more affordable too! I had been eyeing a piece of abstract art to display in my living room, but had to settle for something a lot cheaper.
ReplyDeleteBut we do love photographs on the wall. I think we have a gallery wall with our own photos pretty much in all the hallways, so that definitely makes it feel more home-y!
Those are such gorgeous pieces! I have never really collected art for my walls, but once I have my own house I think I will start collecting!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday! I nominated you for a little award on the blog today, but no obligation, I'm just passing on the love. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet Laicie!
Deletemaking a house a home can be quite difficult sometimes. i haven't moved in over ten years. even though i crave change, i just can't seem to let go of the familiar. when it comes to art, my walls are pretty bare. i still have a abstract painting that i did in tenth grade that would look great in the bedroom, but it's still in the back of my storage closet. i think that needs to be displayed as soon as possible, just because it carries so many nice memories from my high school days in art class. for some affordable and unique art, check out society6 or etsy.
ReplyDeleteleyla.
Thanks for the tips on where to find art. You definitely should display your art. I think that creativity inspires further creativity, so surround yourself with it.
DeleteWe've got art coming out of our ears. I love art in the home though.
ReplyDeletePS. Love your blog, and thanks for following along with mine.
With how artistic you both are it's no wonder your home has it in buckets. :)
DeleteLove these pictures, the last one reminds me of this Virginia Woolf picture: http://cannabisandcreativity.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/virginia-woolf.jpg
ReplyDeleteThese pieces are so beautifully curated! I always need things on the walls of our home to make it feel cosy - even if it's just leaning something against the wall.
