adventure is right here

Last week was Nick's first week at his new job and the first time in two months that we hadn't been together for the entire day. It was strange not to be able to tell him the moment that a weird idea came into my mind. I am getting used to it now and my days have been pretty full, job hunting, moving from hotel to hotel while we wait for apartment to become available and exploring some of the most beautiful little shops. (If you're wondering if it's possible to have cute shop overload, it isn't. I've tried.)

I'm so excited to share some of our adventures and pictures from Europe, but if you get too antsy waiting then you can see some of them on my photography website! If you like it please let me know. If not, you can keep that to yourself since my ego's a little fragile after the hours I spent curating and coding.

Oh, and in case you didn't know, we're in Palo Alto. Our moving company should arrive this afternoon and then Nick will have more than one pair of slacks to wear to work!

These pictures were taken in Cinque Terre, Italy.

America's Calling

I woke up this morning in Wales. It was hazy, green and grey and 5am when my mind overpowered my body's need for sleep. Today is the last real day of our whirlwind six week trip. Tomorrow morning we fly home; to America, to Chicago.

I can never sleep the night before a big event, which includes flying anywhere. I barely slept before my wedding or graduation, and any major holiday I'll be lucky to get any amount of sleep. It's as if my body can only rest when my mind lets it. The end of this trip is also the beginning of our move to the San Francisco area, the start of new jobs, and the real end to many years of school.

This was a trip that I dreamed about for many years. Nick told me the other day that he doesn't think that he hasn't completely processed everything we've seen or done yet and I feel the same way. Once we're more settled in I'll have to time to journal more and share our experiences and pictures here. Even though it hasn't been possible to blog throughout our trip, what with our lack of internet, computers and time, I've enjoyed snatching the odd moment to read blogs. You lot have been up to interesting things too.

P.S. I'll be posting some pictures, both from the trip and before, on instagram and Facebook in the coming days if you'd like to follow along with those.

if I die young...

It's been pretty much non-stop Europe and moving planning in our house for the past few weeks. In between we've managed to sleep, watch season two of Call the Midwife (well worth the watch), and take a very few pictures including these of a good friend and great photographer, Monika Ottehenning. So to take a break I decided to do some editing and blogging.

Also, if any of you have been to or are currently in Europe do you have any tips for us for our upcoming trip?

You can see a few more on my facebook page.

Eurotrip 2013

So . . .  we graduated. mostly

And we're going to Europe in two weeks! We've spent the better part of the last month working on those two events and I can hardly believe that one is over and the other is around the corner. I'm going to post more about how we are managing to do this and our itinerary and the general glee I feel at this but I'm emailing this person and sorting through that stack at the moment and so I'll share a picture instead. We got these two lovelies last summer and Nick used his to go to Belize but mine has just been waiting for Europe.
